Paxos Festival Trust Ltd

The Paxos Festival Trust organizes two festivals each year; the Spring Festival, with the emphasis on contemporary music, and the International Festival, held in the late summer. Both involve the participation of exceptionally talented young musicians at the outset of their career.

History of the Trust

Since 1986, the annual Paxos Music Festivals have enabled prizewinning students to share in the study and performance of a very wide range of chamber music works before audiences of Paxiots and visitors. Paxos Festival Trust Ltd was formed in 1987, in England, with charitable objectives qualifying for the normal UK tax exemptions. Since then it has organized the development of the festivals.

In June 2004, in addition to the long-established International Festival, the Trust offered for the first time a Spring Festival, directed by four Soloist members of the Ensemble Modern of Frankfurt on behalf of its International Academy (IEMA). The purpose of this new development was to provide selected Greek students and young professionals with intensive study and performance experience in 20th century and contemporary chamber music from some of the internationally recognized masters in this field.

Effective from September 2005, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama took over direction of the Paxos International Festival. Founded by the Corporation of London 125 years ago, the Guildhall is recognized worldwide as one of the leading British conservatoires, with a strong international element among its students. Our International Festival continues to concentrate on the study and performance of the whole range of international chamber music, in the tradition established since 1986. Three professors from the Guildhall School direct the study and rehearsal sessions which take place daily throughout the Festival. Five concerts are given in the refurbished Old Schoolhouse of Loggos.
